Austenitic Gray Iron Castings from Pacific Alloy Casting, Los Angeles, CA

Specification for Austenitic Gray Iron Castings ASTM A-436

Austenitic gray iron is characterized by uniformly distributed graphite flakes, some carbides, and the presence of sufficient alloy content to produce an austenitic structure. It is superior to gray iron in withstanding atmospheric exposure, seawater, caustic soda, and dilute and concentrated sulfuric acid.

Austenitic gray iron castings offer better corrosion resistance and wear resistance, toughness and high-temperature properties than the standard gray irons. Their largest application is oil fields that contain hydrogen sulfide.
